چکیده
As demand for deployment and usage is increased in WLAN environment, achieving satisfactory throughput is one of the challenging issues. Initially as WLAN environment is data centric, the best effort delivery based protocol serve the purpose up to certain extent. With multimedia traffic protocol fails to deliver required traffic. The requirement of satisfactory network performance is delivery of QoS. The QoS demand controlled jitter and delay, dedicated bandwidth etc. This triggers various approaches of modifying existing protocol to achieve acceptable throughput to satisfy user requirement. In this paper we will use OPNET to evaluate the performance of RTS/CTS mechanism to improve performance in wireless environment with Hidden Nodes.

Performance Analysis of WLAN Using OPNET
AbstractIn this paper analyze the performance of Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs), it is important to identify what types of network settings can cause bad performance. Low throughput, high packet loss rate, delayed round trip time (RTT) for packets, increased retransmissions, and increased collisions are the main attributes to look for when analyzing poor network performance. We use the OP...
متن کاملPerformance analysis of CSMA and IEEE 802.11 in Wireless Sensor Networks using GloMoSim and IEEE 802.11as a gimmick
Since its birth wireless communication became an indispensible part of the modern society. One major area that has a gigantic impact on the performance of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is the Medium Access Control (MAC) layer. Many random access protocols exist in wireless sensor networks. Some of these protocols include Carrier Sense Multiple Access (CSMA), Multiple Access with Collision Avo...

متن کاملAsymmetric RTS/CTS for Exposed Node Reduction in IEEE 802.11 Ad Hoc Networks
One interesting problem regarding wireless local area network (WLAN) ad-hoc networks is the effective mitigation of hidden nodes. The WLAN standard IEEE 802.11 provides request to send/clear to send (RTS/CTS) as mitigation for the hidden node problem; however, this causes the exposed node problem. The first 802.11 standard provided only two transmission rates, 1 and 2 Mbps, and control frames, ...
متن کاملHow effective is the IEEE 802.11 RTS/CTS handshake in ad hoc networks
IEEE 802.11 MAC mainly relies on two techniques to combat interference: physical carrier sensing and RTS/CTS handshake (also known as “virtual carrier sensing”). Ideally, the RTS/CTS handshake can eliminate most interference. However, the effectiveness of RTS/CTS handshake is based on the assumption that hidden nodes are within transmission range of receivers. In this paper, we prove using anal...
